Poster House
New York, USA · Since 2015
Poster House sits on West 23rd Street in Chelsea, squeezed between busy avenues, so it feels like a small pause in the middle of Manhattan errands and commute life. From the street it looks compact and approachable, more like a neighborhood spot than a grand institution, which fits the idea of posters as everyday images you normally just pass by.
About the Museum
Inside, the museum is basically a long, linear space with a few modest gallery rooms branching off a central path, so you never feel overwhelmed or lost. It is the first museum in the United States dedicated entirely to posters, treating everything from vintage travel ads to protest graphics as things you actually slow down and look at.
Highlighted Artists/Works
Rotating Poster Exhibitions — Shows usually focus on one theme or designer (like movie posters, travel ads, or single-artist retrospectives), so you get a clear, bite-sized slice of poster history rather than a survey of everything.
Historic & Political Posters — Rooms often include older commercial and political posters, which are fun visually but also give quick context on how people used images to sell, persuade, or protest in different eras.
Contemporary & Activist Posters — Recent works, including activist and social-issue posters, make it feel current and grounded in how people use posters right now, not just in the past.
