The Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum is one of New York’s most recognizable museums, famous as much for its building as for the art inside. It began on Fifth Avenue and now sits in a small network of Guggenheim museums in Bilbao, Venice, and the future Guggenheim Abu Dhabi, all focused on modern and contemporary art.

  1. Architecture you can’t miss

    • The New York Guggenheim was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright as a white spiral that visitors walk up or down, instead of moving through boxy rooms.

    • The building itself feels like a sculpture, so even people who aren’t “art people” usually enjoy just being in the space.

  2. Modern and contemporary art focus

    • Inside, you’ll see mostly 20th‑ and 21st‑century art—abstract painting, sculpture, installations, and rotating special exhibitions.

    • Because the building is relatively compact and the spiral lets you see many works and viewpoints from a single path, most visitors can get a good overview in about 60–90 minutes, though it depends on the person and the exhibition.

  3. A global family of Guggenheims

    • The Guggenheim in New York is the original, but there are related museums in Bilbao, Venice, and a planned site in Abu Dhabi, each with its own landmark building.

    • If visitors enjoy the New York experience, they’ll recognize the Guggenheim name and architecture style in these cities too.
